Letter: So, Trump‘s inability to get things done is the liberals‘ fault? That‘s rich

John Henkels has once again given me the opportunity for a good laugh (Public Forum, Jan 26), no small gift in these difficult times. Of course, I’m referring to his accusation that liberals/Democrats have “not cooperated with” the Trump administration, which he feels has stymied Trump in his first year as president.

Now that’s funny! I guess the writer has forgotten the GOP’s almost total obstruction of everything President Obama tried to do for eight years. Does he not remember Mitch McConnell declaring from day one that his party’s “No. 1 priority was to make Barack Obama a one-term president” and that he had “no intention of cooperating with the new president”? It is, indeed, a rich irony that Henkels now accuses the Democrats of not cooperating with President Trump, even though I haven’t heard any Democrat state that as official party policy as McConnell did back in 2008.

Furthermore, Mr. Henkels, liberals don’t dislike Trump because he “won the election,” but because he is such a total, unmitigated disaster as president. Far from Making America Great Again, he has made himself and the country an international laughingstock.
