I have a hard time understanding why people think just because you are well off (for reference, I am not one) you should pay more in taxes than those who are not. It really bothers me that they say they can afford it. Since when does it become all right to tax someone more just because they have more than someone else?
People who are well off have usually worked harder or taken more risk than others and reaped the rewards. I am of the opinion that taxes are too high and need to be lowered, and I also believe that the government does not use our taxes in the most efficient manner.
As is the American dream, anything is possible; if you want it, there is a way to get it.
Those who are well off have lived the dream; why should their success be punished? I believe if we all paid a flat tax rate, regardless of income, and if our country were run like a business, the country would have plenty to go around. I work for everything I have and am proud to say that. I don’t think it’s right to take from the rich because they “can afford it.”
