Becky Edwards, who served five terms in the Utah House of Representatives and challenged U.S. Sen. Mike Lee in last year’s Republican primary election, is the newest member of The Salt Lake Tribune Editorial Board.
Edwards, who lives in North Salt Lake, began her career as a marriage and family therapist before entering politics and is now retired.
“In my political work I’ve found the best solutions to any issue or problem start with open, honest, civil, and inclusive discussions,” Edwards said. “The Salt Lake Tribune has been that voice in our city and state for over 150 years, and I feel honored to be joining their editorial board.”
Edwards replaces Salt Lake City attorney Michelle Quist as the community member of the Editorial Board, the groups that determines the positions Salt Lake Tribune editorials will take on issues of the day.
Continuing on the board are:
• Paul Huntsman, chairman of the Editorial Board and of The Tribune’s nonprofit board of directors.
• Dave Patel, a member of The Tribune board of directors and associate dean for student and external affairs and executive director of the Huntsman Scholar Program at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, Utah State University.
• Lauren Gustus, executive editor of The Salt Lake Tribune.
• George Pyle, opinion editor of The Salt Lake Tribune.
