Grant Burningham: Utah politics in an important election year

Our independence means that we serve as a watchdog for those in power in Utah

Dear Reader:

The Salt Lake Tribune is unique in Utah because we are independent, but you may not know that we are unique in the United States, too.

The Tribune is the nation’s first major metro nonprofit news organization, which means we are bound to no one. The people who keep us running are you, our subscribers and donors.

As we head into 2022, we are looking at another important election year, and because of supporters like you we will be there the whole way. We are excited to have expanded our Statewatch reporting efforts, and are putting more resources towards daily coverage and in-depth reporting.

We’ve been asking you for a lot over the last few weeks during our end-of-year campaign. That’s because your donations allow us to directly fund coverage on the Utah legislature, COVID-19, federal politics and more.

Thanks to four generous donors, every gift that comes in through the end of the year will be matched:

• Zions Bank

• Joseph Morrison Simmons Foundation

• Jan Marquardt

• Craig Wallentine and Elaine Klein.
