Republican incumbent Rep. Blake Moore has won his reelection bid for Utah’s 1st Congressional District seat.
Moore secured 63% of the vote by 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, shortly after counties started posting early, unofficial results.
“I feel great about my race, confident,” Moore said, prior to the results being released.
Challenger Bill Campbell, a Democrat, had 33% of the vote while Daniel Cottam, a libertarian, had received 4% of the vote.
The victory secures Moore‘s third term in Congress.
Earlier this year, Moore defeated Republican challenger Paul Miller with 72.58% of the vote in the GOP primary election despite losing to Miller at the state nominating convention.
Ahead of the election, Campbell told The Salt Lake Tribune that he favored easier pathways to legal immigration, but wanted to “secure our border” and would “immediately deport” the “most dangerous” undocumented residents.
Moore, 44, has called the U.S.-Mexico border a “national security and humanitarian disaster” and criticized President Joe Biden’s “catch-and-release” approach to border security.
In his first two congressional terms, Moore served on the House Budget Committee and Ways and Means Committee.
He was voted to vice chair of the House Republican Conference last year after Louisiana Republican Rep. Mike Johnson was elected as House speaker, making Moore one of Utah’s highest-ranking members of Congress.
