The Utah Transit Authority celebrated its 50th birthday with speeches by officials at “Transit Day” at the Utah Legislature on Tuesday.
Gov. Gary Herbert noted that In that 50 years, UTA has grown from a few buses to now include a fleet of more than 700 of them, 117 light rail vehicles, 52 commuter rail passenger cars, 18 commuter rail locomotives and 471 vanpool vehicles and more than 2,600 employees.
Riders take more than 44 million trips annually across six counties. Herbert also proclaimed Tuesday as “Utah Transit Authority Day.”
