Interstate 15 will close in Layton for three consecutive nights this weekend for construction of a new overpass.
The freeway will be closed in both directions between Hill Field Road (Exit 331) and Antelope Drive (Exit 331) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
The hours for the closure each night will vary.
On Friday night, the closure is scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. and last until 8 a.m. Saturday.
On Saturday night, the closure is scheduled from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday.
On Sunday night, the closure is expected from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday.
Northbound drivers will be detoured to Hill Field Road, then back onto I-15 at Antelope Drive. Southbound drivers will be detoured to Antelope Drive, then back onto I-15 via Main Street and Layton Parkway. The northbound on-ramp at Layton Parkway will also be closed, and drivers will need to use Antelope Drive to access northbound I-15.
“One of our main goals with all of our construction projects is to keep traffic moving and minimize inconvenience for the public,” said Brent DeYoung, district engineer for the Utah Department of Transportation. “That’s why we’ve scheduled these closures at night, when fewer cars are on the road.”
The new bridge over I-15 is being built as part of UDOT’s Layton Crossing project, which is extending 1425 North across the freeway to connect with Main Street near Angel Drive. Engineers project that 7,000 cars per day will use the new road.
“When the new overpass opens this summer, it will provide another east-west crossing for local drivers,” DeYoung said. “This will help improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at the Antelope Drive and Hill Field Road interchanges.”
