Major freeway ramps closing this weekend in Salt Lake City, West Valley

Closures are coming to some busy freeway entrances in Salt Lake Valley this weekend.

The 500 South onramp to Interstate 80 in downtown Salt Lake City will close beginning Friday at 9 p.m. through Saturday night for bridge maintenance. Once it reopens, work will shift to the adjacent 500 South onramp to Interstate 15 from Saturday night through Monday at 6 a.m.

The Utah Department of Transportation says drivers should use alternate freeway entrances such as 1300 South and 600 North. Of note, the 900 South entrance to I-15 also is currently closed for bridge construction.

On Monday, the ramp from eastbound 3500 South to northbound Interstate 215 will close for 45 days as part of a freeway reconstruction project there.

Suggested alternate routes include 4700 South and Redwood Road.

Also on Monday, a project will begin in South Jordan to widen 10600 South from South Jordan Gateway to Redwood Road.

For the first few weeks, construction there will be concentrated in the median — but UDOT advises drivers to plan ahead for delays and traffic shifts. The project will add one lane in each direction, add turning lanes and repave the road. It is expected to be completed in the fall of 2018.

Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change. Updated information on traffic conditions is available online at udottraffic.utah.gov or on UDOT smartphone apps.
