Utah has now given out more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine than it has tallied people who have tested positive for the disease.

According to the Utah Department of Health, almost 363,000 doses have been injected into patients. That’s about 11,400 more than the number of coronavirus cases reported in the state.

As of Thursday, 84,154 Utahns were fully vaccinated, having received both doses of the vaccine.

Utah’s coronavirus-related death count exceeded 1,700, with 14 more fatalities reported. (Three of those deaths occurred before Jan. 14 and were only recently confirmed to be as the result of COVID-19.)

Generally, there has been a decline in community spread of the virus “throughout the state,” state epidemiologist Dr. Angela Dunn said Thursday. There are hotspots, such as Summit County and southwest Utah, so there’s extra focus there in terms of contact tracing and testing, she said.

“Things are looking really, really good for us in Utah,” she said, as long as people continue to follow coronavirus prevention guidelines, particularly important as COVID-19 variants spread.
