Multiple Utah schools see hoax ‘bomb threat’ emails

The Utah Department of Public Safety confirmed the threats were a hoax and is further investigating the matter

Several schools across Utah and the U.S. were the target of multiple hoax “bomb threat” emails sent Friday morning, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety.

“As of our latest assessment, all received threats have been determined to be hoaxes,” DPS said in a statement early Friday.

DPS did not identify how many Utah schools have been affected by the hoax threats, though Weber School District released a statement Friday saying they had been notified Thursday that such emails were circulating in schools throughout Idaho and Wyoming.

“This morning, the same hoax started hitting schools throughout Utah,” the statement said. “In fact, we’ve already received the hoax here at some of our schools.”

District officials are working with local authorities to further investigate, according to the Weber statement.

“You may see some additional officers at schools around the county this morning, but we are trying to limit the disruption this hoax could cause,” the statement said.

DPS said it is actively working with local law enforcement to further investigate the reports.

“Our top priority is ensuring the safety and security of our educational institutions and the communities they serve,” DPS said. “We want to reassure parents, students, and educators that appropriate measures are being taken to address these threats.”
