The Brigham City Police Department has a new chief, choosing to stay with a local candidate after a nationwide search to replace retired Chief Paul Tittensor.

Actually, former Lt. Michael Nelsen had been serving as the Box Elder County town's interim chief since January of this year. Late last month, he was selected from a group of five finalists to officially take the reins.

Nelsen, who has been with BCPD for 36 years, holds an associate degree in Pre-Law from Ricks College; a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Brigham Young University; and also is a graduate of the FBI Command College.
