A large fire burned through a Logan neighborhood south of Utah State University overnight, forcing evacuations and leading to shelters being opened in the overnight hours.
The large fire, now called the Canyon Road Fire, burned approximately 40 acres in the Island neighborhoods of Logan and had burned several vehicles.
The blaze damaged two structures and was 50% contained by 2 p.m. Saturday, according to Utah Fire Info. Officials said the cause remains under investigation.

According to officials, about 100 homes were evacuated, but the evacuation orders have been lifted for those south of Canyon Road. They remain in place for homes from Canyon Road up to US 89 and 1100 East to 1600 East.
The remaining evacuation orders will be reevaluated at 4 p.m.
As the sun rose early Saturday, most of the large flames seen earlier had been extinguished, although spotty fires in the neighborhood could still be seen, along with the charred ground left behind.
The mandatory evacuations were for residents within a 1.5-mile zone from 600 East and Canyon Road, except for those who lived on the USU campus.
