Travelers, beware: Construction will soon cut off a main route to Salt Lake City International Airport for a little over a month.

Starting Tuesday night, the Utah Department of Transportation will shut down three off-ramps that carry northbound drivers on Interstate 215, according to a news release from the agency.

The closures will include the exit from northbound I-215 to westbound Interstate 80 (a key route to the airport), the northbound I-215 off-ramp to eastbound I-80 and the northbound I-215 exit to Redwood Road.

Both off-ramps to I-80 will be closed until September, while the off-ramp to Redwood Road will be closed through Oct. 2, according to the release. Drivers on their way to the airport should use Bangerter Highway, Interstate 15 or State Route 201 as detours, UDOT said.

Redwood Road to northbound I-215 also remains closed through July 2027. The closures are part of the I-215 West improvement project, which will repave sections of the highway, replace 18 bridge surfaces and repair 12 bridges, according to the release.

“Taking care of our roads and bridges is one of UDOT’s most important responsibilities,” UDOT project manager John Montoya said in the release. “Much like a car or a home, a bridge requires different kinds of maintenance throughout its life. Staying ahead of that maintenance helps keep our transportation system safe and reliable, and helps us get the most from the infrastructure Utahns have already invested in.”
