The Salt Lake Valley has a new TRAX light rail stop. Here’s where it will take you.

The Utah Transit Authority opened its new South Jordan Downtown station on Wednesday, located across from the soon-to-open Ballpark at America First Square.

Bumble, the black-and-yellow-striped mascot for the Salt Lake Bees, has a brand-new ride.

On Wednesday, Bumble the bee accompanied officials from the Utah Transit Authority on the inaugural trip to the new South Jordan Downtown station on UTA’s Red Line, located just a baseball-throw away from the Ballpark at America First Square.

But the soon-to-open stadium is just the first new attraction that will bring visitors to South Jordan, Mayor Dawn Ramsey said.

Right across from the new downtown stop, construction crews are working on an entertainment complex, which will include luxury bowling with lane-side dining, Swig soft drinks and top-of-the-line movie theaters and private event space.

Restaurants, an ice-skating rink and an outdoor amphitheater are on the way as well, Ramsey said. Salt Lake County’s new regional arts center will also be located just blocks away from the ballpark, with crews scheduled to break ground early next year.

All these new developments fast-tracked the process for South Jordan to get the new rail station 10 years ahead of schedule, Ramsey added.

“We hope that our friends all across the Wasatch Front will come out and catch a game here,” Ramsey said. “... Stores, restaurants, opportunities — it’s really going to be a cool place, and I think people are going to like it.”

The new train stop is located near Grandville Avenue and West Black Twig Drive, between the South Jordan Parkway station and the southernmost stop on the Red Line, the Daybreak station. The Red Line offers 15-minute service between Daybreak and downtown Salt Lake City from 5:30 a.m. to about 11:30 p.m Monday through Saturday, with 30-minute service on Sundays.
