Former Utah Rep. Mia Love’s brain cancer ‘no longer responding to treatment,’ family says

Love, who represented Utah’s 4th Congressional District for four years, was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2022.

Former U.S. Rep. Mia Love’s brain cancer is “no longer responding to treatment,” her family said Saturday on social media.

The 49-year-old Love, who served Utah’s 4th Congressional District from 2015 to 2019, was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2022, according to CNN.

“Many of you are aware that Mom has been fighting GBM brain cancer,” Love’s daughter Abigale said in a post from Love’s account on X, formerly Twitter. “Sadly her cancer is no longer responding to treatment and the cancer is progressing. We have a shifted our focus from treatment to enjoying our remaining time with her.”

Glioblastoma is an aggressive form of brain cancer that has no cure.

When voters chose her to represent Utah’s 4th Congressional District in 2014, she became the first Black lawmaker to serve the state in Congress. She also became the first Black woman to be elected to Congress as a Republican.

After losing her 2018 reelection bid to Democratic challenger Ben McAdams, Salt Lake County’s former mayor, she became a political commentator on CNN.

Love’s family is asking for pictures and videos of her to be shared to MiaLoveMemories@gmail.com, Abigale said in the Saturday post.
