‘People are rightfully concerned’: New resort planned near Zion National Park, Canaan Wilderness Area

Ons of the owners says he has gone out of his way to open wildlife corridors since purchasing the ranch.

Nestled against Zion National Park, the Canaan Wilderness Area and in the path of migratory wildlife, the historic Trees Ranch west of Springdale will soon be transformed into a resort.

Parunuweap Canyon LLC has plans to build a hotel along with short-term rentals capable of serving up to 350 nightly guests. Up to 25 private homes are planned as well as a swimming pool, spa, horse center and tent campsites.

The project will start with 280 acres and has four phases totaling up to 1,960.67 acres that could be developed, according to the Trees Ranch Project Plan.

The Washington County Commission unanimously approved a zone change Oct. 1 that will allow more development on the property than what the previous zoning ordinance allowed.

Cory MacNulty, the Southwest Region campaign director at the National Parks Conservation Association, told St. George News that the property is rare in rapidly growing Washington County.
