Person in hospital after being shot by police in West Jordan

Officers were responding to a report of a suicidal person.

West Jordan • A person has been taken to the hospital after a police response escalated to an officer shooting the person early Sunday morning.

West Jordan police told FOX 13 News that the shooting happened around 2 a.m. in the Hoyle Circle neighborhood, near 5600 West 7000 South, when officers responded to reports of a suicidal person.

Once on scene, officers spoke with the person, who police allege had an edged weapon. Over the course of the conversation, the person fled into a home in the area, where officers say they knew children were inside.

One officer fired their weapon, wounding the person, who was then transported to a hospital in stable condition.

No officers were injured. Unified Police has taken over the investigation as part of the Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol.
