Salt Lake County’s youngest residents will soon get free passes to rec centers. Here’s how.

Since its launch this summer, more than 62,000 children and teens have become pass holders for Salt Lake County’s “My County Rec Pass” program.

More Salt Lake County kids will have access to recreation centers and ice rinks this fall.

The county launched the “My County Rec Pass” this summer, providing free access to county facilities like swimming pools, gyms and climbing walls. Pass eligibility was initially limited to children and teens ages 5-18, but county officials have expanded the program to include all Salt Lake County children and teens under 18, beginning Oct. 1.

Children 9 years old or younger must be accompanied by someone 14 or older, according to a news release from the county.

“Expanding the age range for the My County Rec Pass is the right thing to do for Salt Lake County families because it ensures every child in our community has access to recreation centers and the health and well-being opportunities they provide,” Mayor Jenny Wilson said in a statement. “We are beyond excited to welcome, free of charge, Salt Lake County youth under 18 to participate in the My County Rec Pass.”

This summer, more than 62,000 children became rec pass holders, officials said in the release. The pilot program will run through May 31, 2025, and parents can sign up their children at a Salt Lake County-operated recreation center with proof of residency.
