Boulter Fire near Juab and Tooele county lines prompts evacuations

Smoke makes its way to Salt Lake Valley, impacting air quality

A wildfire on the Juab and Tooele county lines was at approximately 2300 acres as of Sunday afternoon.

The Boulter Fire started Saturday afternoon, along Utah State Route 36, which was closed in both directions through Sunday morning. Evacuations were issued between Vernon and Eureka on Saturday afternoon, but they were lifted as of 1 p.m. on Sunday.

First responders battled erratic winds when the fire first started, with gusts up to 60 mph in the area, per Hayden Mayhan, meteorologist at National Weather Service in Salt Lake. The National Weather Service also issued a red flag warning for Salt Lake on Saturday, and the region saw high winds and low humidity.

Smoke from the Boulter Fire could be smelled and seen in the Salt Lake Valley on Saturday. Winds blew from the southwest, with smoke headed directly toward the valley.

A wind shift from the west late Saturday afternoon moved the Boulter Fire into the Tintic Mountains north of Eureka.

Utah Fire Info reported on X that roughly 100 fire personnel were working Sunday to secure sections of the fireline.

A DC-10 air tanker, an aerial firefighting jet, was deployed, according to SLCScanner on X.com.

A Type 3 fire management team was expected to arrive Sunday to assist with containment, which was at zero percent through mid-day Sunday.
