Retired San Juan County deputy charged with sex crimes

Investigators ask other victims to come forward.

A retired San Juan County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested Sunday on rape of a child, forcible sex abuse of minors and other charges, with allegations dating back “at least two decades,” according to a statement from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest of Grayson W. Redd, 74, is a continuation of an ongoing investigation that began when someone recently made the allegations, according to the San Juan County sheriff.

“The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and [San Juan] County Attorney are dedicated to enforcing the laws, especially in the protection of society’s most vulnerable, against all perpetrators, regardless of employment or social status,” reads the statement that was posted to social media Sunday night.

Investigators ask any alleged victims to come forward.

“Due to the nature of this case, the position of the defendant in the community, and the prolonged duration of the charged behavior, the San Juan County Sheriff’s office and San Juan County Attorney’s Office want to encourage anyone who may be a victim of Mr. Redd to contact San Juan County Attorney Victim Advocate by email, kjensen@sanjuancounty.org or San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, 435-587- 2237, in order to be connected with any available resources for crime victims,” reads the statement.

Those who are unable or uninterested in pursuing criminal charges against Redd may still qualify for resources from the State of Utah’s Office for Victims of Crime.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
