Another cold front is expected to push through northern and central Utah on Wednesday, bringing with it a second round of snow squalls in as many days, according to the National Weather Service.
The squalls, which can produce whiteout conditions, are expected to hit the northernmost parts of the state near Logan from about 2-4 p.m., then move south to Ogden followed by Salt Lake City from about 4-6 p.m. before continuing on to Provo toward Nephi from about 7-10 p.m.
Moderate to heavy snowfall is forecast Wednesday for northern Utah’s mountains and valleys. The Wasatch Front can expect 1-4 inches of snow, with 4-10 inches predicted along the Wasatch Back and 6-12 inches in the mountains.
The weather service also warns lake-effect snow is possible in the Salt Lake and Tooele valleys overnight Wednesday into Thursday, bringing an additional 1-2 inches.
In the Salt Lake City area, there’s a 60% chance of snow on Thursday and an 80% chance on Friday. Another storm system is expected to arrive Saturday, bringing an 80% chance of snow in Salt Lake City — and more snow is likely Sunday.
There’s a slight chance of still more snow on Monday and Tuesday.
In the next few days, temperatures are also forecast to be about 5-10 degrees below normal. In Salt Lake City, highs of 23, 29 and 35 are expected on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
On Sunday, a high of 30 is expected, followed by a high of 24 forecast for Monday.
Wednesday’s storm is expected to push farther south than Tuesday’s storm, with 3-6 inches of snow possible in Utah’s southern mountains and less than one-half inch of measurable snow possible in St. George.
