Man shot, killed in Salt Lake City

Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate.

A man is dead and police are still scouring for leads after a shooting early Friday in Salt Lake City.

At 1:43 a.m., officers received a report that a man was on the ground at 200 South and 600 East, according to Salt Lake City police. When paramedics arrived, they found him suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, died at the scene. He was not immediately identified.

According to a police news release, detectives suspect the man had been arguing with at least one person when he was shot as he stood near the southwest corner of 200 South and 600 East. The shooter then got in a car and drove away, or was driven away by another person or other people.

Police have not identified a suspected shooter as of Friday afternoon. Investigators are asking anyone who lives or works in the area of 100-400 South and 500-700 East to review their security camera footage between 1:15 and 2 a.m. on Friday.

According to police, investigators are specifically interest in “any footage that may show a group of people walking together or any vehicles coming or leaving the area at a high rate of speed.”

In addition, police said it is possible the shooter or others may have discarded evidence as they left the area. Anyone who finds anything suspicious is asked not to touch or move the object, but call 911.

Despite the fact that a suspected shooter has not been identified, police said they do not believe there is any “immediate threat” to the community. This marked the 14th homicide in Salt Lake City this year.
