All dressed up in pink and sequins with nowhere to go? The Salt Lake Tribune compiled a list of where you can celebrate the opening of the new “Barbie” movie this weekend.
1. A ‘pink’ block party at The Gateway
The Gateway, the Women-Owned Small Business Collective, Urban Art Gallery, Party USA and Megaplex Theaters have partnered up to put on a “pink” block party at 136 S. Rio Grande Street.
Music, activities and photo-ops will be available from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. There’s also an outfit contest — so be sure to wear your Barbie best.
2. Utah Reproductive Roundtable’s Community Care Block Party
The Utah Reproductive Roundtable is hosting its second annual Community Care Block Party on Friday, and it’s themed Barbie pink this year. The roundtable includes the American Civil Liberties Union of Utah and the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah.
The free event at Jordan Park includes activities like skating, food trucks, live performances and dancing. “When focusing on community care, it is important that we experience joy and laughter,” an event description states.
The event will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday at Jordan Park. RSVP here.
3. ‘Barbie Dream Haus’ drag show
Enjoy a Barbie-themed drag show Sunday before watching the movie at Brewvies Cinema-Pub at 6 p.m.
Hosted by Willie Touchya, the performers include Anya Bacon, Jax Creative, Lucy Fur, Miss Toodles Galore and Schade the Queen. Guests are encouraged to come early and purchase food and drinks before the show. The event is 21+.
4. Water Witch ‘Barbie’ party
Water Witch is inviting everyone to dress up as their favorite Barbie next Thursday, July 27, at 8 p.m. According to the bar’s Instagram, drinks will be pink, and an all-women crew will behind the bar, serving them up.
The cocktail bar is 21+, and all gender identities, sexualities and personalities are welcome, according to the event description. The party will last until Water Witch closes at 1 a.m.
5. Thrift for Barbie outfits
Need to add some pink to your closet for the Barbie events listed above, or a screening of the new movie?
Try looking for something local at iconoCLAD, with locations on South State Street and East 300 South, or Pib’s Exchange on South Ashton Avenue.
Copperhive Vintage, also on South State Street, is promoting some 1950s and 1980s pink dresses if you’re looking for something time-period accurate.
