Salt Lake City police ask for public’s help finding hit-and-run driver

The crash happened early Sunday near 755 S. Redwood Road.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is asking the public to help identify the car and driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened early Sunday on Redwood Road.

The investigation began at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, when someone called 911 and reported a crash involving a bicyclist at 755 S. Redwood Road, according to a news release.

When officers arrived, they found an injured 59-year-old man on the ground. First responders provided life-saving efforts, but the man died at the scene, the release said.

Based on preliminary findings, police believe the driver hit the cyclist as he or she drove north on Redwood Road and didn’t stop, the release said.

Salt Lake City police are asking people who live along Redwood Road from Indiana Avenue to 500 South to review their doorbell camera footage and security camera footage from about 4:20 a.m. to 4:40 a.m., to see if they captured anything that might be useful to the investigation, the release said.

Members of the public can call 801-799-3000.

Sunday morning’s crash marks the 10th traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City so far this year, the release said.
