Police identify suspect in hit-and-run that killed a man on a scooter. They’re still searching for him.

The two men knew each other, according to police.

(Salt Lake City Police Department) Police investigate a hit-and-run fatality that killed a 61-year-old man on a scooter — and may have been intentional.

Salt Lake City police are continuing to search for a man they believe intentionally ran down and killed a man on a scooter.

According to police, the 53-year-old suspect was driving the car that hit and killed 61-year-old Victor Herschberger at about 1:15 a.m. on Monday morning. Both men were traveling in the same direction on 1000 North near Topaz Drive when the suspect U-turned and veered into Herschberger at a high rate of speed.

The suspect drove away without stopping. Herscheberger died at the scene.

The two men knew each other, according to police, and detectives “do not believe this was a random incident.”
