A West Haven man is dead and his brother-in-law is accused of shooting him.
Dallas Wade Martineau, 40, of Roy, has been charged in Second District Court with murder, a first-degree felony.
Shortly after 11 p.m. on Wednesday, the West Haven man’s son called police to report that his father, Russell Allen Evans, had been shot. When officers arrived, they found Evans outside his home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to a probable cause statement.
The 50-year-old father was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Evans’ son told police he heard “popping sounds” after his father went out on the back porch. When he looked outside, he saw a man he believed was his uncle with his arm outstretched as if he were holding a gun. The son grabbed his own gun and went outside, but the shooter had left the area.
When police went to Martineau’s home in Roy, he told them there was a gun in his truck, and officers arrested him without incident.
After agreeing to speak with police, Martineau told investigators that he drove to his brother-in-law’s home and waited in the backyard for Evans to come outside, according to a probable cause statement. He then “made eye contact” with his brother-in-law and “shot him multiple times,” the document states.
A potential motive was not outlined in court documents. Martineau was booked into the Weber County jail, where he is being held without bail.
