A man was shot and wounded inside the Valley Fair Mall on Monday, and three boys were taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
According to West Valley City police, a 25-year-old man was shot in the hip at about 6 p.m. while shopping at the mall, located at 3600 South and 2700 West.
The victim was taken to a hospital, police said. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The three boys, whose names and ages were not released, left the mall immediately after the shooting, according to police. They were soon arrested at a TRAX station across 2700 West from the mall, just steps from the West Valley City Police Department.
Police said they recovered a handgun near a store between the mall and the TRAX station. They did not say what led up to the shooting.
The mall was not locked down because the three boys immediately left after the shooting, according to police. A small area of the mall was closed off as police investigated.
The three boys were booked into juvenile detention. No further details were released Tuesday.
