The homebuilder of two houses in Draper that slid down a hillside will demolish the rest of a house on Springtime Road that “partially collapsed,” stated Draper City in a Wednesday news release.
The demolition will be happening Wednesday from about 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the city said. During that time, Springtime Road will be closed to cars and pedestrians except for local traffic, and police officers will be on the scene to enforce that restriction, according to the release.
“This work needs to be completed to improve the safety of this site and allow workers to begin assessing remediation efforts,” the city stated.
On Saturday morning, two evacuated homes collapsed due to sliding earth, and other homes in the neighborhood are being evaluated as snowmelt affects ground conditions, Draper officials said in a news release. Edge Homes wrote in a statement released Monday that “despite all the engineering and quality control efforts,” the retaining wall and hillside slope “experienced a complete failure.”
The city has since condemned two additional homes in the area. Edge Homes officials wrote they plan to pay for “relocation, storage, and temporary housing expenses” of the homeowners on either side of the slide area.
In the meantime, Ann’s Trail and Clark’s Trail are still closed due to debris blocking the trail and the danger of additional soil sliding, according to an FAQ posted on the city’s website. The parks department is looking to create temporary detours for the trails, “but that will take time to configure.”
