Tuesday Morning to close Utah’s remaining stores amid bankruptcy

Locations in Salt Lake City, Ogden, Orem and St. George are holding closing sales.

Discount retailer Tuesday Morning is closing its four stores in Utah a month after declaring bankruptcy and announcing it would be streamlining its remaining fleet of stores.

Utah’s last four Tuesday Morning stores are located in Salt Lake City, Ogden, Orem and St. George. Bargain hunters can find extensive sales at these stores, where virtually everything is on sale.

As company leaders restructure the Texas-based retailer, they are “winding down unprofitable and underperforming stores” in the hopes of emerging as a “nimbler” company, a news release states. Almost 40 stores are closing nationwide.

“After considering how best to address Tuesday Morning’s exceedingly burdensome debt, we have determined that the best path to reorganizing and transforming the Company begins with a Chapter 11 filing,” said CEO and director Andrew Berger in a statement in February. “... We look forward to taking steps that enable us to emerge as a stronger retailer that draws on a legacy of offering a unique off-price value proposition to our loyal customer base.”

Tuesday Morning, opened in 1974, is “one of the original off-price retailers” specializing in name-brand home textiles, furnishings, housewares, gourmet food, toys and seasonal decor, “at prices generally below those found in boutique, specialty and department stores, catalogs and online retailers,” its website states.
