One man is dead after a shooting in Salt Lake City on Sunday morning.
According to a news release from Salt Lake City police, the man was shot after an argument broke out in the parking lot of an apartment complex at about 1700 South and West Temple. He was later identified as 40-year-old Robert Barros.
As Barros drove to the complex around 11:45 a.m., officers said he was followed there by a second car. Once in the parking lot, Barros argued with an unknown number of people in that car, and someone in that vehicle shot him, the release stated.
The shooter drove off and is still at large, police said, and an early investigation indicates the shooting wasn’t random.
Barros was pronounced dead on the scene after life-saving efforts by officers, according to the release.
Detectives are asking anyone with security cameras that capture traffic on West Temple from 1500 South to 2100 South to review those systems to see if they captured any speeding vehicles in the area between 11:45 a.m. and 12 p.m.
An investigation is underway.
This is the fifth homicide in Salt Lake City this year.
