Four dead in plane crash near Cedar City

The plane was on a sightseeing tour of Zion National Park when radar lost communication with it

Cedar City • Four people are dead after a single-engine plane crashed 5 miles outside of Cedar City on Saturday evening.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday released the names of the four victims. They are Steven and Lindsay Eatchel of Springville, Thomas Eatchel of Heber City and Danielle Deagostini of Sandy City. Steven Eatchel piloted the plane, per a news release.

“The Iron County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friend of those who lost their life in this tragic event,” the office said in the release.

The four people were pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash is unknown and is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation and Safety Board.

The plane, a 2004 Diamond DA-40 Aircraft, was on a sightseeing tour of Zion National Park and following SR-14 going east. Radar lost communication with the plane at 6:42 p.m. The plane initially left the Spanish Fork Municipal Airport at around 2:45 p.m. and was en route to arrive at Cedar Regional airport at approximately 4:10 p.m.
