How each Utah legislator voted on the override of HB11; 15 GOP lawmakers went from nay to yea

The legislative override passed on a 56-18-1 vote in the House and 21-8 in the Senate during a Special Session on Friday.

The Legislature on Friday voted to override Gov. Spencer Cox’s veto on HB11, the controversial bill barring transgender girls from competing in school sports matching their gender identities.

The measure passed the House on a 56-18-1 decision, gaining 10 affirmative votes since the body voted on the last-minute Senate amendment on March 4 — the final day of the 2022 General Session — and hit the two-thirds majority needed to override.

Democratic Rep. Angela Romero was the single legislator who was counted as absent or not voting Friday; she originally voted against the Senate amendment. Romero is in Washington, D.C., meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris.

The override passed the Senate on a 21-8 vote Friday. The amended bill passed 16-13 on March 4.

Here is how every lawmaker voted on Friday.
