A man is in custody after he reportedly fired a gun at another car on Interstate 15, then led Utah Highway Patrol troopers on a 100mph chase before officers punctured his tires and he crashed.
Shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday, the Highway Patrol received a report of a road-rage dispute that ended when a man fired a gun at least three times at another car on I-15 near mile marker 349 in Weber County. According to UHP, the car was not struck by the gunfire.
Based on information from the witness — including the license plate of the suspect’s vehicle — UHP troopers located and attempted to stop the car. It sped off and troopers pursued at speeds that reached more than 100 mph.
The suspect exited I-15 and raced through Sardine Canyon on US-89/91, where UHP troopers punctured the car’s tires with a tire-deflation device. The suspect’s vehicle then crashed and rolled near Wellsville.
The suspect suffered minor injuries in the wreck and was taken into custody. When his car was searched, four loaded guns were found — three handguns and a rifle — according to UHP.
The suspect’s name has not been released. According to UHP, troopers continue to investigate what caused the initial road-rage dispute.
