Now-former Sandy fire captain held without bail in child pornography investigation

Clinton McKee reportedly told investigators he set up hidden cameras where girls undressed.

A now-former Sandy Fire Department captain is being held without bail after investigators say the 45-year-old filmed children undressing with hidden cameras, according to court records.

Clinton McKee was booked Thursday in the Salt Lake County Jail on seven counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, all second-degree felonies. He had not been officially charged as of Friday afternoon.

On Jan. 10, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from a social media company about an account that uploaded and distributed suspected child pornography, according to an affidavit of probable cause for the arrest. An IP address was forwarded to the Utah Attorney General’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the affidavit states.

Investigators conducted a search warrant at McKee’s Salt Lake County residence on Thursday. McKee reportedly told investigators that he viewed and distributed child pornography “as recently as last week,” and “admitted to hiding cameras in a home business space where teenage girls would undress,” according to the affidavit.

A judge issued an order Friday that McKee be held without jail because he “would constitute a substantial danger to any other individual or to the community, or is likely to flee the jurisdiction of the court” if he was released, court records show.

Sandy City Fire Department posted on Facebook Friday afternoon that “McKee is no longer employed with Sandy City.”

City officials “were deeply troubled to learn” that McKee “was the subject of an open criminal investigation,” and he “was immediately placed on administrate leave pending an administrative investigation into the allegation of criminal conduct,” according to the post.

“Sandy City leadership and staff are committed to complete transparency and will cooperate fully with the Attorney General’s office regarding their investigation,” the post states.
