It’s going to get cold in Utah, but will there be snow?

The cold front is expected to “mix out valley inversions,” but only temporarily, according to the National Weather Service.

A front is bringing colder temperatures to Utah, but it won’t bring much snow, according to the National Weather Service. And, while it will improve air quality for a couple of days, the relief will be temporary.

The cold front will move through the state by early Tuesday. Some light flurries are expected in northernmost Utah, along the Idaho border. And there could be a few snow showers in southern Utah mountains on Wednesday, with little accumulation.

Temperatures will drop significantly — by 10 to 15 degrees in many areas.

In Salt Lake City, a high of 34 is expected on Tuesday, 29 on Wednesday, 31 on Thursday and 37 on Friday. And overnight lows will be downright frigid — 17 on Tuesday, 13 on Wednesday, 15 on Thursday and 20 on Friday.

The normal high temperatures for the first week of February are 41-42; normal lows are 25-26.

(National Weather Service) A cold front will arrive in Utah on Monday and Tuesday.

Salt Lake City will be almost tropical compared to Logan, where the highs won’t hit the freezing mark at all this week. Logan won’t get out of the 20s again until Saturday, when the forecast high will be 30. And overnight lows will be in the single digits, ranging from 7 on Tuesday night to 2 on Wednesday night.

There’s a 20% chance of snow in Park City on Tuesday night, and a 30% chance on Wednesday, but accumulations of less than half an inch are expected. The forecast is for daytime highs in the low to mid-20s through Thursday, with overnight lows of 3-9 degrees.

At lower elevations, the cold front will “mix out valley inversions,” according to the National Weather Service. However, inversions are expected to build again on Thursday and Friday.

The Utah Division of Air Quality is forecasting that Salt Lake County will see yellow/moderate air conditions on Tuesday. Cache, Davis, Tooele and Utah counties will be yellow on Tuesday.

Temperatures are also expected to drop in southern Utah. In St. George, a high of 54 and an overnight low of 26 are expected on Tuesday, 44/21 on Wednesday, 47/23 on Thursday, and 54/27 on Friday.

Normal highs for the first week of February in St. George are 56-57; normal lows are 30-31.
