A weak low-pressure system is expected to improve air quality in northern Utah on Friday — but no precipitation is forecast for the valleys and it won’t completely scour out the smog.
The Utah Division of Environmental Quality is forecasting orange/unhealthy for sensitive groups air on Thursday in Salt Lake, Cache, Davis and Tooele counties. That’s expected to improve to yellow/moderate on Friday and Saturday.
It’ll be yellow all three days in Duchesne, Uintah, Utah and Weber/Box Elder counties.
According to the National Weather Service, there could be a few snow showers in northern Utah mountains on Friday, but no snow or rain is expected to fall in the valleys. And the high pressure is expected to start building again on Sunday — there’s only a slight chance of precipitation in the middle of next week and air quality is expected to worsen.
After highs in the low to mid-40s on Thursday in Salt Lake City, temperatures will fall to the low 30s on Friday. It’ll warm up a bit to the upper 30s on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with mostly sunny skies. Expect overnight lows in the mid-20s.
The next chance of precipitation in Salt Lake City comes Wednesday, when there’s a slight possibility of snow.
The forecast for southern Utah is pretty much unchanging for the next week — mostly sunny skies, daytime highs in the mid- to upper 50s, and overnight lows in the 30s.
