Man wanted in fatal Salt Lake City shooting turns himself in

The suspect in the killing surrendered to Clearfield police.

The suspect in a fatal shooting early Sunday in Salt Lake City has turned himself in to police.

Roy Anthony Duran, 20, surrendered to Clearfield police on Monday, according to a news release from the Salt Lake Police Department.

The shooting was reported at about 1:23 a.m. on Sunday in the area of 500 West and 600 South, police said. When officers arrived, they found 21-year-old Isaiah Valerio had been shot. Despite lifesaving efforts, Valerio died at the scene.

Witnesses told police that Duran had argued with several other people at a warehouse Halloween party, and that he punched Valerio in the head, then shot him before fleeing.

Pending formal charges, Duran was booked into the Salt Lake County jail for investigation of homicide, obstruction of justice and possession of a gun by a restricted person.

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone who has information about the case may call 801-799-3000.
