West Valley City police search for suspect in killing of 82-year-old man

The suspect was initially named a person of interest in the fatal shooting.

Police are searching for a man they suspect fatally shot an 82-year-old man in West Valley City on Oct. 4.

Kearns resident Noel Munoz Lopez, 34, last week was initially named a person of interest in the slaying of Farrell Bartschi. On Thursday, West Valley City police in a news release described Munoz Lopez as a suspect in the shooting.

The Oct. 4 shooting happened at about 7:10 a.m. near 3800 South 4200 West, police have said. Arriving officers found the Bartschi unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities continue to search for Munoz Lopez. Investigators believe he was driving a white 2012 Chevy Malibu at the time of the homicide with an “In God We Trust” Utah license plate, labeled “9P6EE.”

The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for any information leading to his arrest. He is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs about 210 pounds. He is bald with a black beard and mustache.
