There were more than 1,200 new cases of COVID-19 in Utah over three days this weekend, and six more people died of the coronavirus.

(The Utah Department of Health no longer provides daily COVID updates on weekends.)

Almost 9,000 Utahns received a dose of a coronavirus vaccine Friday-Sunday, and the number of Utahns fully vaccinated against COVID-19 rose to 1.43 million — just over 44% of the state’s total population. And nearly 1.61 million residents have received at least one dose of one of the vaccines.

To date, UDOH has identified 2,249 “breakthrough cases” of COVID-19 — people who contracted the virus 14 days or more after being fully vaccinated. That’s 0.03% of the fully vaccinated population.

And 187 of those breakthrough cases (0.001%) had to be hospitalized; six died (0.0004%).
