Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help after a 7-year-old girl was shot and killed in Heber Friday night.
A man called 911 around 10:35 p.m. Friday and said he was on his way to Heber Valley Hospital with his 7-year-old daughter, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office on the department’s Facebook page.
The hospital called 911 roughly 15 minutes later to report a 7-year-old girl in the emergency room with a gunshot wound. She died around 11:30 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies responded to the hospital and to where the girl lived at Wasatch Commons Apartments in Heber.
“Shortly after deputies arrived at the residence, they heard a gunshot coming from inside or close to a neighboring apartment,” the post states. Deputies then arrested three intoxicated people, according to the sheriff’s office.
The girl’s father has set up a GoFundMe to help with costs to move his daughter to Puerto Rico and “give her the eternal rest that my angel deserves.”
“I will appreciate the help that everyone can give with all my heart,” he stated in the GoFundMe post.
Wasatch Back Major Crimes Task Force is investigating. Anyone with information about “suspicious activity” in the area of Wasatch Commons Apartments on Friday is asked to call the tip line at 435-654-9276.
The sheriff’s office searched the apartment complex area “and considers it safe for residents at this time,” the post states.
