Murray police say man officers shot and killed was threatening his mother

The man shot and killed by Murray police officers on Tuesday had an “extensive history of domestic violence,” and his mother feared for her life, according to police.

Willie T. Salazar, 33, died of his wounds at scene. A unnamed police officer was shot in the leg, according to police. That officer was reportedly treated at a hospital and released.

According to a news release from Murray police, they were called to an apartment at 811 E. Vine Street about 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The woman who called 911 told dispatchers she believed her son was going to kill her.

When officers arrive, Salazar met them outside the apartment and a “confrontation ensued, and shots were exchanged.”

Police did not say how many shots were fired by Salazar or the officers, or who shot first.
