Body of fallen climber on Mount Olympus recovered

He fell before he had all of his gear on, officials said. Another climber was safely rescued.

The body of a climber who fell on Mount Olympus on Saturday morning has now been recovered, according to Ken Hansen of the Unified Police Department.

Authorities say that James Roache, 54, fell while climbing before having all of his gear on. He reportedly fell into a crevice and died instantly.

Hansen reported that the body was recovered using a helicopter. His name has not yet been released.

Roache was hiking with another climber, who was also taken off the mountain.

The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team, which performed the recovery, is a special operations extension of the Unified Police Department.
