Seth Gibson, 34, has been identified as the man who shot and killed his ex-girlfriend in an Ogden supermarket parking lot on Saturday, and then killed himself.
On Monday, Ogden police identified the victim as Mindee Lavell Elmore, 41. Gibson confronted and shot her in the parking lot of the Smiths Food and Drug at 1485 Harrison Blvd.
Gibson fled the scene on Saturday in a vehicle, but was confronted by police officers in front of a home in the 900 block of Maple Street. He had a semiautomatic handgun and refused to surrender, according to police, and nearby homes were evacuated. After several hours of negotiations, Gibson shot himself and was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
According to Ogden police, the investigation into the deaths is ongoing and “no further information will be released at this time.” The department also issued this statement: “This incident is a shock for our community and specifically the family members that it has impacted. If you were affected by this weekend’s tragedy, please reach out to the Ogden City Police Department Victim Advocates.”
Victim advocates are available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at 801-629-8245 and 801-629-8246.
A statement released by Elmore’s family described her as “a loving, caring, independent woman” who “loved her child and family.” She was a “hard worker” who “always knew how to crack a joke” and was “always laughing and smiling. ... She will be missed by so many.”
A GoFundMe page set up to raise money for Elmore’s funeral had exceeded its goal of $10,000 by Tuesday afternoon, but was still accepting donations.’
