Three more suspects arrested in kidnapping and killing of Kearns woman

The body of Conzuelo “Nicole” Solorio-Romano has not been located.

Unified Police have arrested three more people in the kidnapping and murder of Conzuelo “Nicole” Solorio-Romero. Her body has not, however, been found.

A 38-year-old woman, her 22-year-old son and a 27-year-old man have been booked into the Salt Lake County jail on charges related to the death of Solorio-Romero. According to police, she was forcibly abducted from her home on Feb. 6, taken to a house in West Valley City and fatally shot.

Orlando Esiesa Tobar, 29, and Jorge Rafael Medina-Reyes, 21, have been charged with aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping and obstruction of justice. According to court documents, they were angry with Solorio-Romano because they believed she provided information to police that resulted in the arrest of one of their friends.

According to a probable cause statement, detectives learned from a confidential source that the three new suspects, who were arrested Tuesday, were at the West Valley City home when Solorio-Romero was shot. The informant told police she overheard the female suspect on the phone telling someone to remove all of the victim’s belongings from the home.

Another witness told police that the 22-year-old man called Tobar and told him to bring Solorio-Romero to the West Valley address where she was killed; and that his mother told Tobar to take the victim upstairs when he and Medina-Reyes arrived with her.

According to the probable cause statement, the female suspect told police she was at the West Valley residence when Tobar and Medina arrived with the victim, and that she saw Solorio-Romano being shot. The female suspect said everyone there went to her restaurant after the killing, and that Tobar made her go back to the house to clean up the evidence.

The 27-year-old male suspect also told police he was there when Solorio-Romano was brought to the home by Tobar and Medina, and that he was outside the apartment when she was shot. He said he was also ordered back to the home by Tobar, but said he did not help with the cleanup.

Police say they obtained surveillance video from the restaurant that shows the female suspect, her son, Tobar and Medina-Reyes meeting in the female suspect’s office in the time between the shooting and when she returned to the apartment to clean up.

Body camera footage from officers making a welfare check at the apartment where they believe the shooting took place shows all three suspects that night “moving items out of the apartment and locking the apartment door. They appeared to be cleaning up.”

All three of the new suspects are being held in the Salt Lake County jail without bail. Pending formal charges, the female suspect and her son are under investigation for murder, kidnapping and obstruction of justice; the 27-year-old man is under investigation for kidnapping and obstruction of justice.

The Salt Lake Tribune generally does not name suspects until they have been charged.
