A snowfall of 1.5 inches might not sound impressive to people in northern Utah, but it was a record-breaking amount in St. George when it fell Saturday.

The National Weather Service reported Saturday afternoon that 1.5 inches broke the daily record for snowfall on March 13th and was the ninth-largest amount of snow in March in St. George since the late 1800s. Accumulating snow in March is unusual in St. George, according to the weather service.

Other parts of Utah are seeing heavier snow dumps. Alta Ski Resort reported eight inches in 24 hours on Saturday evening.

The Weather Service said 1-2 feet of snow are expected to fall in the Uintahs through Sunday. Snow around I-15 in central and southern Utah could result in winter driving conditions on Saturday evening.

UDOT Traffic issued a weather alert for the weekend warning that snow will impact Utah roads, especially in eastern Utah mountains.
