The National Weather Service has issued a high-wind warning for the northern Wasatch Front from Monday evening through Tuesday morning.
Winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected from 8 p.m. Monday until 11 a.m. Tuesday, with gusts up to 65 mph possible in Davis and Weber counties and 39 mph in Salt Lake City. The strongest winds are expected in Centerville and Farmington, near the mouth of Weber Canyon, in “areas normally impacted by downslope winds.”
The weather service warns there could be blowing debris, property damage and power outages. Travel could be difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles on Interstate 15, the Legacy Parkway and U.S. 89.
According to the weather service, “this event is not expected to be nearly as strong” as the hurricane-force windstorm that caused widespread damage in northern Utah on Sept. 8, 2020. But residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items like trampolines and garbage cans.
Temperatures are forecast to be in the mid-30s to about 40 through week’s end in Salt Lake City. The next chance for snow will come Friday — a storm is “likely” Friday night into Saturday, according to the weather service.
After a high of about 50 on Monday, Tuesday’s forecast high in St. George is 45, and there’s a 20% chance of snow showers before 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Temperatures will return to the 50s through Friday, then drop to the 40s as rain — possibly mixed with snow — moves in Friday night into Saturday.
