A Nevada shooting left four people dead, including a Utah woman and her 12-year-old son — and the woman’s 16-year-old daughter was critically wounded.
Police in Henderson have not released the names of the victims, but, according to Juan Diego Catholic Schools, they include Diana Hawatmeh and her 12-year-old son, Joseph, who was a student at Saint John the Baptist Middle School in Draper. And Hawatmeh’s 16-year-old daughter, Yasmeen, suffered gunshot wounds and is hospitalized in critical condition.
According to Henderson police, they received a report of gunshots and a shooting victim at an apartment complex at about 11 a.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived, they found two women who had been shot to death, and the wounded teenager.
Officers then located a suspect — Jason Neo Bourne, 38 — “barricaded in a nearby vehicle” with the boy, who was “being held as a hostage,” according to a statement from police. “As officers attempted a de-escalation dialogue with the suspect, the suspect held his firearm to the juvenile’s head,” and officers opened fire. Bourne and the 12-year-old were both killed.
Police did not say who fired the shots that killed the boy, but did say that Bourne fired “multiple rounds inside the vehicle.”
The shootings remain under investigation, according to Henderson police, who declined to release any further information.
