Utah’s weather will be sunny, warm and mostly dry throughout the work week — almost more like summer than fall — but a big change is expected this weekend. By Sunday, it’ll seem more like winter.
Weather will not be a problem on Election Day. The NWS is forecasting a high of 69 in northern Utah, with partly sunny skies and light wind. It’ll be about 10 degrees warmer in southern Utah, with a 30% chance of rain — but that’s mainly before 9 a.m.
It’ll remain sunny and warm in northern Utah (with highs in the mid-60s) and southern Utah (with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s) through Friday, but then the gorgeous weather will end.
A cold storm system is headed south from the Gulf of Alaska, and is expected to reach the West Coast on Friday and then turn inland. It’s forecast to reach Utah late Friday or Saturday, bringing with it gusty winds, much colder temperatures and precipitation. Rain and snow may fall in the valleys (with some accumulation possible) with moderate to heavy snowfall in the mountains in northern Utah.
And, the NWS warns, there could be lake-effect snow in some areas, increasing accumulation.
According to the NWS, temperatures in the Salt Lake City area will dip to the mid-30s on Friday night, with a high of just 36 on Saturday. After dropping to 23 on Saturday night, Sunday’s forecast high is 30. And after dropping to 18 on Sunday night, Monday’s forecast high is just 29.
It’ll be warmer in the St. George area, of course, but southern Utah will also experience a significant temperature drop. After highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s through Friday, Saturday’s forecast high is 55, and it’ll be in the mid-40s on Sunday and Monday, with overnight lows in the mid-30s. There’s a chance of rain on Saturday, and a slight chance of rain and snow on Sunday.
