A 29-year-old woman is dead and her newborn child was in critical condition after a car crash in West Valley City on Thursday night.
According to West Valley police, Shelby Boyce, who was about eight months pregnant, was a passenger in a Mitsubishi Lancer traveling west on 3500 South. As the car proceeded through the intersection with Bangerter Highway at about 7 p.m., a Subaru Forester heading south crashed into it.
Police believe the driver of the Subaru ran a red light. The accident remains under investigation.
Boyce was transported to a hospital, where her baby was delivered. She later died from her injuries. The baby was taken to Primary Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
FOX13 reported the baby was taken off life support later Friday.
Boyce’s 28-year-old husband, who was driving the Mitsubishi, and the 18-year-old man who was driving the Subaru were taken to hospitals to be treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.
