A 34-year-old man was shot and killed Saturday morning on the sidewalk near 800 West and North Temple, and on Sunday, police arrested a man accused of pulling the trigger.
The man, whom police have not publicly identified, was shot multiple times at around 10:30 a.m. near the Wienerschnitzel restaurant. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
On Sunday, police arrested a man in connection with the killing with the help of surveillance video showing the man firing “several rounds” at the victim before fleeing in his vehicle, per probable cause documents. The vehicle was located later in the parking lot of a hotel.
A woman who identified herself as the alleged shooter’s fiancee told police that the couple was looking for heroin when the shooting took place. As she laid down in the backseat of her vehicle, she heard several gunshots and asked her fiance what had happened, to which he replied, “He said I was a punk,” probable cause documents say.
